Hundreds of silver carp leapt out of the water in southwestern China.

Video filmed in Kunming City in Yunnan Province on August 6, shows a throng of silver carp continuously jumping out of a lake.

The remarkable scene was captured by local residents and tourists, who were left gasping in astonishment.

The following morning, the astonishing event continued as the fish were seen leaping out, with some even landing on yachts anchored by the shore.

An eyewitness described the scene, saying, "The fish have been jumping since yesterday (August 6), and when the boats start moving, they jump even more intensely. It really looks like the scene of carp leaping over the Dragon Gate. Some even jump onto nearby boats."

Around 10:00 am on August 6, the jumping fish began to be noticed in the area where the yachts were anchored. Chen Jing, a manager at Kunming Grant Yachts Co. Ltd, said that the phenomenon was very rare, and might have been caused by recent heavy rainfall leading to a lack of oxygen for the fish. However, the exact cause was unclear.

Chen added, "When we noticed the fish leaping out of the water, we arranged for all staff members to maintain order. If any fish were seen jumping onto the boats or elsewhere, our employees would promptly put them back, ensuring they weren't taken away by anyone."

Experts have begun an on-site investigation into the situation and found that the leaping fish were primarily silver carp. These river-dwelling fish are sensitive to changes in water flow and have a tendency to swarm and seek out water.

Recent continuous rainfall, increased inflow into the Dian River, and significant changes in local water flow have prompted the fish to gather.

The disturbance of water by frequent yacht movement at Haigeng West Pier has likely triggered this leaping behaviour. The situation has been monitored, and actions have been taken to ensure the safety of the fish.
