A girl shot to the top floor alone in an elevator after the doors malfunction leaving the horrified mother outside in southern China.

CCTV footage filmed in Shenzhen City in Guangdong Province on August 12, shows a woman pushing her daughter into an elevator, only to have the doors unexpectedly slam shut behind the child.

Leaving her with no choice but to release the stroller, the mother could only watch in horror as her child alone rose swiftly to the building's top floor.

Forrtunately, the child was unharmed. The mother revealed that a kind-hearted neighbour who entered the elevator on the top floor ensured the child was safely returned to her on the ground level.

However, the mother reported that her daughter, shaken from the incident, frequently cried throughout the night following the scare.

On August 14, a representative from the building's management addressed the terrifying incident. They disclosed that a faulty part of the elevator's light curtain sensor was the culprit, causing the doors to close on their own.

They assured residents that the malfunctioning elevator had since been repaired and that the child, while shaken, had not sustained any injuries.

The building management announced plans for weekly elevator inspections to prevent similar incidents in the future.
