A sudden flood swept away multiple people killing 7 in southern China.

Video filmed in Ya'an City in Sichuan Province on August 9 shows turbulent waters overtaking the barriers, engulfing several people in the torrent.

According to the report, 11 local residents at the fish-scale dam on the Longxi River were caught unawares by rising waters upstream, leading to people being swept away.

The police and fire departments were immediately dispatched to the scene, and as of now, 4 people have been rescued while 7 others tragically lost their lives.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.

Responding to the incident, a Yucheng District cultural tourism bureau worker stressed that the location was a water facility, not a tourist attraction, and had never been promoted as such.

8月9日下午，雅安雨城区政府发布了情况通报。通报称，2023年8月9日9时许，雨城区11名群众在陇西河鱼鳞坝处，突遇陇西河上游涨水，造成涉水人员被冲走。 接警后，公安、消防部门立即赶赴现场全力搜救，目前4人获救(1人轻伤、3人未受伤)、7人遇难，涉事原因正在调查中。
对此，雨城区文旅局工作人员回应，事发位置系一处水利设施，并非旅游景点，他们也从未对外宣传过它是景点。对于事发前上游是否泄洪？雨城区水利局工作人员并未答复。
