Huge planks of wood plunged from an overpass hitting scooter riders below in eastern China.

Dashcam video filmed in Shanghai on August 13, shows a rain of timber falling from an overpass, crashing down onto unsuspecting riders below.

Following a preliminary investigation by the police, it was revealed that the wood fell from a heavy-duty truck driven by Mr Wei, 38, as he approached the intersection near the G60 ramp in Xinzhuang.

The debris, unfortunately, struck Mr Cai, 37, who was riding a scooter and his 12-year-old passenger, also surnamed Cai. Both victims sustained injuries from the incident but have been rushed to the hospital and are now out of life-threatening danger.

Driver Wei is now in police custody. Authorities have so far ruled out suspicions of him being under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident. The exact cause of the unfortunate event is still under thorough investigation.
