Motorists trapped in floodwaters were rescued by West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue this morning Saturday 21st October, as Storm Babet brought flooding to many parts of the UK. One incident saw a man & 2 women rescued by fire & rescue as they stood on the roof of their stranded vehicle on Newton Lane near Fairburn, North Yorkshire. Less than a mile a way from this incident saw a lorry driver brought to dry land, after being trapped for over an hour on Barnsdale Road between Allerton Bywater & Castleford. Both incidents were attended by the same crew using inflatable life rafts on their adapted trucks from Rothwell Fire Station. Both roads are expected to be closed for a number of days in which motorists will have to use a lengthy diversion.
