This is the moment a lifeboat crew save a dog stranded on rocks in Scotland.

Kinghorn RNLI Lifeboat's volunteer crew sprang into action to rescue the stranded spaniel dog at the former Cockenzie Power Station in Kinghorn, Fife, on March 11.

The UK Coast Guard said it received a distress call around 9 am reporting a dog in the water after it had tumbled over the seawall at the power station site.

The fire service and North Berwick Coast Guard rescue team were already on the scene but requested the assistance of the lifeboat crew.

Upon arrival, the decision was made to send a crew member ashore to the rocks to try and catch the dog.

Helm Neil Chalmers said: ‘We arrived to find the dog uninjured but stranded among the rock armour boulders at the base of the seawall.

‘A crew member swam ashore as it was too rough to get the boat close to the rocks. After gaining the dog's trust, we were able to secure a lead on the dog and use the coastguard's dog rescue pouch to hoist it back to safety.'

Chalmers commended the dog's owners for calling for help rather than attempting a rescue themselves.

He added: 'The dog's owners did exactly the right thing by calling for help rather than attempting to rescue the dog themselves.'

In a reminder to the public, Chalmers urged anyone who sees someone in trouble on the coast to call 999 and request assistance from the Coastguard. The UK Coastguard has a range of resources at their disposal, including the quick response of RNLI lifeboats.
