Mowgli, an extremely traumatised sloth bear cub, has celebrated his first year anniversary at rescue centre in India under happier circumstances.

The orphaned cub has found his confidence back, turned playful, and has been tugging at heartstrings with his energetic antics.

A Wildlife SOS rescue team found him in February 2017 at a forest in Madhya Pradesh, India. His mother had been electrocuted by high tension wires set by poachers.

They shifted Mowgli, who was just a few weeks old then, to a bear rescue facility in Agra.

Mowgli had witnessed the death of his mother and was in extreme trauma. He would not stop whimpering in the first few months.

But thanks to the caretakers, who were always by his side, comforting him and tending to his needs, he got accustomed to his surroundings.

He grew confident and his bear cub instincts finally took over.

A delightful video captures a different Mowgli completing his one year at the Agra centre.

He loves to play with his toys, climb trees, dig looking for termites or spend time with his human mates.

A member of Wildlife SOS says Mowgli can never be released into the wild.

In the first two years of their life, bear cubs pick up the survival skills from their mother.

As Mowgli is not equipped with these skills, it would be difficult for him to survive on his own and may have to continue live in the company of humans.
