This large funnel cloud terrified residents when it was spotted at sea heading dangerously close to their homes.

The swirling vortex of clouds - which forms the start of a tornado - formed off the coast of Camotes Island, the Philippines on June 25.

Residents watched anxiously as it swirled across the bay coming perilously close to touching land and wreaking havoc.

Villager Jeff de Silva said: ''This was one of the most aggressive twisters we've seen near the island. Praise the lord it stayed at sea away from our homes.''

The start of the monsoon season in the Philippines has seen floods and storms sweep the country. The funnel cloud in the footage is a rotating column of condensed water droplets. Funnel clouds can become tornados once they touch land.
