This Chinook helicopter had just arrived at the scene of the Lake Christine wildfire near Basalt, CO at 3:50pm July 4, 2018. It is significantly larger than the helicopters that were already in use. The video shows the Chinook approach Kodiak Lake in El Jebel, CO to load water while hovering over the surface, then once it has a full load it lifts off in the direction of the fire. Wind created by the helicopter is blowing trees on both sides of the lake and the wind is also creating whitecaps on the surface of the water. Standing on the shore filming the video was quite refreshing since it was a hot day and the wind and spray created were invigorating. Six hours later in the dark, no aircraft were allowed to fly in the night and the fire had made it's way over the ridge and down the left side of the hill shown in the video. The house on the upper right of the screen in the last five seconds was spared by a close margin, but thousands had to quickly evacuate.
