Video captures terrifying moment woman flees with children from Carr Fire
Renee Mort was given minutes to evacuate her family home last week
when a raging wildfire swept across California.
Terrifying video filmed in Redding, California on July 27, captures the moment Mort attempted to flee with her daughter and parents from Lake Redding Estates subdivision while attempting to flee the area but got stuck in traffic.
Video shows the fire nearby and the silhouette of burnt trees flapping in strong winds.
Mort can be heard crying and talking about what horrors are unfolding in front of her eyes: “Oh my god, no, please no, oh my god!” she cries while also trying to keep her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter calm by telling her that she is such a brave girl.
Inside the car were also the family's pets - two cats and a parrot.
The family were able to escape and are "all OK," Mort wrote online.
“My parent's home, my childhood home, was a total loss. We had no warning and only minutes to grab what we could and flee. My folks lost everything. My folks lost pretty much everything. They built that house. I grew up there. Over 35 years gone in a flash.
“It was like Armageddon. Those homes that weren't damaged by fire were hit by the tornado. Trees were uprooted, roofs blown off. ... It's like a war zone. Well, that's what we can see from (television). We still aren't allowed into the neighborhood.”
