We can't wait to go back to this Bangkok market stall selling fried bugs. The insects for sale included grasshoppers, crickets, silk worms, crabs and other high-protein local delicacies.

Thai locals love the salty crunchy snacks and were buying bags of them all night when we visited but some tourists are more hesitant.

Here a local woman takes particularly pleasure in chomping into a grasshopper at the popular Huai Khwang Night Market.

Some environmentalists believe that bugs could be a super-food and provide a long-term solution to environmental issues caused by intensive meat farming. Incredibly, the most protein-rich insects contain between 13g and 77g of protein per 100g. They also contain healthy fats, iron, and calcium and low in carbohydrates.

With the world's population is expected to hit nine million by 2050, it is feared the increased food output could be added pressure on the environment causing a scarcity of agricultural land, water, forests, fisheries and non-renewable energy.
