‘Flying Ice Cream’ vendor scoops up ice cream by throwing it 20 feet in the air
This is a funny and eye-opening video of Alexander, a unique ice cream vendor from Nakon Pathom, Thailand.
Alexander owns the ‘Flying Ice Cream’ stall that opens for business every evening at the food court of the night market, in the parking lot of the famous Phra Pahtom Chedi, the tallest Buddhist Stupa in Thailand.
He is immensely popular for his skill of tossing up scoops of ice cream above his head and ensuring their safe landing into ice cream cups. And he comes across like a cross between a martial artist and a comedy actor as he puts on this show for his adoring audience.
Repeatedly using his catchword "Action!", Alexander throws up the scooped ice cream high up in the air, sometimes, as much as 25 to 30 feet, and then deftly moves his hands and body, to ensure that it lands safely in the cup held in other hand in this display filmed on June 10, 2018.
Tattooed, with a genial smile most of the time, he mixes up his act with casual talking with his customers, including the kids, and practising shadow karate moves, à la Bruce Lee.
Noppakao Sankew, long-term resident of Nakon Pathom said: “I’ve been coming to this food court for the last 14 years, and he has always been here...he is very popular among locals as well as tourists, especially the kids. The ice cream here is amazing too.”
Alexander’s son manages the business end of the enterprise, serving more than 10 flavors to their customers.
Nakon Pathom, the town center of Nakon Pathom province, is about 60 km away from Bangkok. With plentiful buses, vans and trains, it is easily accessible to visitors.
