Fuel stations across Portugal are running out of petrol days after tanker drivers began a nationwide strike, prompting drivers to frantically buy up fuel supplies.

Footage filmed at 23:30pm the night of April 17, shows one of the last fuel stations with petrol in Cascais, a suburb of Lisbon, as a queue of cars rapidly forms, as word spread on the internet that the station still had fuel available.

Thousands of other service stations had been completed emptied as people went in panic buying all across the country.

The Portuguese government declared an energy emergency crisis on Tuesday (April 16), tanker drivers agreed to supply essential services such as hospitals and airports, but there is still no end in sight.
