A housewife in south Thailand had a fright when she found a wild snake at the bottom of her washing machine.

The woman went to do her laundry on the afternoon of April 30 in Nonthaburi, when she noticed the black reptile at the bottom of the drum.

Emergency services had to be called to catch the common rat snake that same day, as seen with rescue workers fishing it out prior to it being released elsewhere.

Rescue worker Somchet Kundapya commented: ''It's fortunate that the woman saw the snake before she put her clothes inside. I don't think it would have survived inside a washing machine.’'
