Indonesia's Mount Sinabung erupted yesterday (June 9) prompting residents to flee the area around the volcano.

Footage shows people fleeing Lau Kawar lake situated close to the erupting volcano.

A huge cloud of ash can be seen emerging from the volcano's crater and rising into the air.

No casualties were reported.

Officials have warned of more potential eruptions and urged people in the area to stay indoors.

People run away from Lau Kawar lake in Karo Regency as Mount Sinabung erupted on June 9, 2019. The volcano began belching ash and smoke at 4.28pm local time, followed by a spread of hot ash to the southeast and south of the crater by up to 3.5km and 3km respectively, the Indonesia volcano agency said in a statement. The agency, however, said there was so far no report of damages or casualties.
