Flash floods and landslides have hit the northern Sumatra region since around 24–25 November 2025, affecting at least three provinces (Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra) with significant casualties, damage, and ongoing evacuations. The disaster is linked to several days of extreme rain associated with a tropical storm/cyclone system passing over northern Sumatra, which caused rivers to overflow and mountain slopes to fail.

National and international reports put the cumulative death toll on Sumatra island at roughly 170+ people as of 28 November, with around 70–80 people still missing and thousands displaced across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra; numbers are still changing as search operations continue.

Across the three provinces, more than 3,000–8,000 families have been evacuated to temporary shelters, and several thousand houses and public buildings have been flooded, damaged, or destroyed.
