This is the bizarre moment a furious mayor suspends a police chief after stepping on faeces next to a revered monument.

Mayor Francisco Domagoso was visiting the stone sculpture of Filipino hero Andres Bonifacio during a surprise inspection in Manila this morning (July 10).

But he was furious that the attraction was covered in waste and smelled of urine.

He angrily picked up the phone in front of the stunned colleagues and suspended the station commander of the precinct until the problem is fixed.

He says on the phone: ''This place is full of human waste. This is the biggest toilet I have seen in my life. Please relieve the police chief assigned here.''

The young mayor accidentally stepped on waste while he was conducting the unannounced inspection around Gat Andres Bonifacio's shrine.

Speaking in the video, Domagoso says: "See, I even stepped on it. Who is in charge at the precinct here? This place is built in honour of the famed revolutionary hero Andres Bonifacio. It should not be treated this way."

The monument featuring a massive stone sculpture of Filipino hero Andres Bonifacio leading revolutionaries against the colonialists is only a few meters away from the Manila city hall.

Domagoso called up and asked Manila Police District director Vicente Danao Jr. to relieve of his duties Lawton Police Community Precinct Commander Lt. Rowel Robles.

He pointed out that the monument is even visible from the windows of the office of the city mayor so he cannot understand why it had been neglected.

Domagoso was elected as mayor of Manila City during the country's May 2019 elections.
