An Asian black bear cub had his head shaved for treatment after being attacked by a dog in Thailand.

The young male was spotted by villagers in Phang Nga on October 29, being bitten above his eyes by an aggressive stray canine.

Quick-thinking locals rushed to scare the pooch away and immediately alerted officials from Kaeng Krung National Park in Surat Thani Province.

Authorities from the Protected Areas Regional Office 4 promptly dispatched a veterinary team to care for the injured cub. To allow proper treatment, the bear's head had to be shaved.

He was later named Khun Chang, after a character from a Thai epic poem known for being bald.

Footage shows the little cub being bottle-fed milk and given food while resting in his cage.

Khun Chang is reportedly recovering well and has since been transferred to the Phang Nga Wildlife Breeding Station for ongoing care and rehabilitation.

Asian black bears are classified as ‘Vulnerable' on the IUCN Red List and are listed in Appendix I of CITES. They are also protected animals under Thailand's Wildlife Conservation and Protection Act.
