Sharpe's Grysbok (Raphicerus sharpei), is a small, shy, solitary antelope that is found in the northern part of Kruger National Park in South Africa, although it is rarely seen. Sharpe's Grysboks stand about 45-60 centimetres (17-24 inches) at the shoulder, and weigh between 7-11 kilograms (15-24 pounds). Males have short, straight horns, and both sexes have reddish-brown coats streaked with white, giving them a grizzled appearance. Their tiny hoofs are about the size of a stiletto heel on a woman’s shoe. Sharpe's Grysboks are normally nocturnal, but this female was calmly standing by the edge of the dirt road on the Mphongolo Loop. She stood still for a while, alert for danger, then moved slowly, sniffing the fallen leaf litter as she went. She then began browsing on the emerging leaves of a Russet Bushwillow (Combretum hereroense).
