Locals were amazed by an unseasonal hailstorm which dropped large balls of ice on the Philippines yesterday (02/10) afternoon.

The downpour in the tropical country lasted around three hours after hitting Bulacan province at around 2pm.

Excited residents took videos of the rare phenomenon while enjoying the unusually chilly weather.

Deus Mendoza said: ''I was astonished at seeing the balls of ice. We never normally experience hailstorms in the Philippines.''

Forecasters said there was no active typhoon in the Philippines during the hailstorm, but there was a low pressure area building up on the southern part of Luzon island which caused the hailstorm.
