Curious, friendly giant pigs pay us a visit

While travelling to Mount Barker in southern Western Australia along the Porongurup Road, we were intrigued to notice an enormous lop-eared, black and white Wessex Saddleback boar with his pink Landrace sow. Both Wessex Saddleback and Landrace are rare pig breeds in Australia. The free-range pigs were curious, and came to inspect us as we stood by the fence of their sandy field. The boar approached us first, grunting softly and wagging his tail, with the pink sow coming closer shortly after. The boar scratched his side several times. They were docile, and after determining that we were not a threat, both pigs relaxed. The black and white boar grunted as he dug a hole with his rear end, while the pink Landrace sow relaxed on the damp sand.
