An exhausted fireman fainted after lowering himself down into a six-metre-deep well to rescue a trapped elderly man in central China.

The video, filmed in the city of Xinxiang in Henan Province on October 29, shows a fireman named He Shihao tied by safe ropes lowering down into a water well to approach the trapped old man.

He then carries the man in his arms and other firefighters pull the ropes up to take them back onto the ground.

The elderly man was rescued in around 30 minutes and handed over to the paramedics on-site.

However, the fireman He Shihao fainted onto the ground due to hypoxia and exhaustion.

Fortunately, he recovered after being putting on an oxygen mask and resting for a while.

Both the fireman and the elderly man have made a full recovery.
