Hundreds are homes are being evacuated today after a month's worth of rainfall fell in some places in the north of England in just 24 hours.

Five severe "threat to life" warnings have been issued and a major incident declared as South Yorkshire has been hit by the worst floods since 2007.

Areas have also been hit by mudslides and travel chaos after more than 80mm of rain fell yesterday (November 7).

Residents in Doncaster are being told to evacuate their homes immediately as warnings were issued by the Environment Agency for the River Don.

The agency said in a statement: "River levels have risen as a result of the persistent heavy rainfall overnight. Consequently, flooding of properties and roads is expected this morning."
