Taxi driver uses feet to steer car in Saudi Arabia
This is the bizarre moment a taxi driver in Saudi Arabia casually used his FEET to steer.
Ashlee Hickman, 19, had only popped out to run errands earlier this month when she suddenly realised her driver was controlling the wheel with his toes.
New Zealander Ashlee, originally from Marlborough, had moved to Riyadh just weeks earlier while travelling -
and ordered an Uber to help navigate the unfamiliar city.
But only minutes into the journey, she looked up to see the man's bare foot stretched towards the steering wheel, toes wrapped around it as the car sped along.
Stunned, Ashlee watched as the driver switched between using his hands and feet to steer, continuing the bizarre technique on and off for the entire trip.
Speaking after the incident, Ashlee said: "My first reaction was 'OMG'. "
"I couldn't believe he was doing this! "
"I was shocked, slightly concerned, but also found it quite funny."
Ashlee added that the man seemed bafflingly relaxed.
She said: "I'm not sure why he used his feet. "
"His seat was very far back and he was pretty casual. "
"I think he was just relaxing while he was driving!"
Despite the odd driving style, Ashlee reached her destination safely but says the incident was far from the worst Uber experience she's had in Saudi Arabia.
She said: "I've never had another driver steer with his feet but I've had many bad Uber trips in Saudi. "
"Someone driving on the wrong side of the road, cars with no seatbelts, vehicles that smell strongly of smoke."
