Famous bald eagles welcome first eggs of the year - after becoming empty nesters
A pair of eagles that found fame after a YouTube livestream went viral have welcomed their first eggs of 2026.
The bald eagle parents, Jackie and Shadow, who have raised multiple eaglets in the past, became empty nesters last year - after Sunny and Gizmo flew away.
Over the last week, fans of the eagles have been watching in anticipation after the couple were seen building up their nest.
The first egg of the season was spotted on January 23, 2026, and the second egg was spotted on Monday.
Now, fans of the famous couple are eagerly watching in their thousands to see if Jackie will lay any more.
Jackie and Shadow gained widespread attention in 2023 when a live stream of their nest showed two eggs, but the eggs failed to hatch.
Now, thousands of people will tune in to the live stream - which has 702,000 subscribers on YouTube - run by non-profit organisation Friends of Big Bear Valley to see what the bald eagles are up to.
In a statement, Friends of Big Bear Valley, said: "Bald Eagles practice delayed incubation. "
"They intermittently incubate and stay off or hover over the egg(s) until the last egg of the clutch is laid. "
"Once the last egg is laid, they should incubate all the eggs more regularly. "
"Since Jackie consistently lays eggs 3 days apart, this process slows the development of the first egg(s) laid so hatching will occur closer together, the eaglets will be closer in size, and all eaglets will have a better chance of survival. "
"With that being said, if Jackie lays a 3rd egg this season, we may continue to see delayed incubation with the chance another egg might be laid in a few days. "
"Only Jackie knows for sure, so we will continue to observe and see what unfolds."
