A 10-year-old girl in central India suffers from a rare genetic skin disorder that has left her with bark-like growths all over her body.

Coming from a tribal area located 50 kilometres (31.07 miles) away from the nearest town of Dantewada, Chhattisgarh, the girl, named Rajeshwari, suffers from Epidermolytic ichthyosis which causes reddening, scaling and severe blistering of the skin.

The incurable disease affects the process of skin regeneration in the human body, making it hard and flaky.

Despite being non-lethal, the disease hinders her daily life making simple activities such as walking and sitting painful.

According to reports, the rare genetic condition affects very few people and till now only around two dozen cases have been reported in the world.

The rarity of the case makes research difficult and the medicine to control the incurable disease has severe side effects.
