"Burden vendor!" Vietnamese women peddling on the burden

Buy video

Typical street scene from the Old Quarter - women street vendors with coolie hats and baskets carried on bamboo poles.

It s very common to see the street vendors carrying their goods along on the street in Hanoi, North Vietnam. On Feb 28, 2020 in Hanoi, Vietnam

Those bamboo frame over shoulder with two big baskets carrying many commodity items for sale in Hanoi (Including many different items: Vegetables, fruits, corn, potatoes, cassava, cakes, duck eggs, even knives, scissors, ....) They start each day around 4am selling their wares, earning just enough to survive. Lots of them are breadwinners.

Whenever a street vendor appears, it also represents an encumbrance of someone as they are carrying the life of their whole families on their skinny shoulders and walk from day to night. That is why sometimes street vendor is also known as ‘burden vendor’.

Street vendors make the picture of Hanoi distinctive, as they’re a sight which can hardly be found elsewhere in the world.
