Hundreds of office workers wash their hands in sinks installed outside their building amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Footage from Chiang Mai, northern Thailand on Thursdsy morning (March 25) shows the row of emergency basins outside the provincial government building.

Each employee has to clean their hands with soap and water, undergo temperature checks and then use hand sanitizer to wash their hands again.

Admin assistant Khun Thidarat said: "It took longer than normal before we could enter the building. But I believe that the extra hygienic measure are a good thing to do because we do not want to be infected by the coronavirus and do not want to spread it as well.''

Thailand has declared 1,045 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and four deaths since the outbreak began.

Measures to contain the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic have been introduced including a travel ban on tourists and the closure of thousands of businesses.

The Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said the country would be placed under a state of emergency from March 26 onwards as curfews and the ban on movements between provinces are considered.

Government spokeswoman Rachada Dhnadirek has also warned that the virus is now also spreading in provinces outside the capital.
