Police officers were attacked by a stone-pelting mob after they tried to enforce a coronavirus lockdown in Tikiapara, West Bengal, India.

Footage taken on April 28th shows residents shouting at the police officers and then throwing stones forcing them to retreat.

The Tikiapara neighbourhood in West Bengal's Howrah district is considered as a COVID-19 high-risk area by the Indian government.

Howrah police said that the situation in the area was now under control.

Footage taken on April 28 shows residents shouting at the police officers who later on retreated after some of them began throwing stones at them to make them leave.

The Tikiapara neighbourhood in West Bengal's Howrah district is considered as COVID-19 high-risk area by the Indian government.

The incident took place in the evening when a police patrol went to the neighbourhood after receiving complaints that people are breaking social distancing rules at the local market.

Meanwhile, the Howrah police said that the situation in the area has been under control now as they have deployed more personnels in the area doing patrols.
