Strong winds blew away a barn at a farm in Lewisburg, Tennessee as staff battled to save the animals during a storm on May 3.

CCTV cameras from a building overlooking the field showed the gales growing in strength when the deadly weather struck shortly before 5 p.m.

A man ran outside to gather up some of the farm animals but as he returned, the metal barn was uprooted and carried across the grass. Fortunately, no animals were hurt.

The storm left more than 100,000 residents across Middle Tennessee without power on Sunday (May 3) while an off-duty firefighter was killed.

The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Nashville said 72-mph gusts were recorded at Nashville International Airport - the fifth-fastest in the city's history.
