Art. 28 of the Hong Kong Basic law (the "constitution") of the city foresees: "Arbitrary or unlawful search of the body of any resident or deprivation or restriction of the freedom of the person shall be prohibited". Despite this, a group of journalists clearly identified, wearing media passes and yellow vests, often with the indication of their agency, were stopped by riot police and searched on Mother's day 2020. A RTHK journalist was even patted and had to empty her pockets.
