This was the moment a garter snake was released from a glue trap with the help of vegetable oil and a caring human.

Captured in rural Minnesota on May 26 the footage shows how filmer, Rachel, releases the reptile after it got caught on a sticky trap intended for mice on her garage floor.

Rachel said online: "[The] glue trap meant to catch pesky mice that enter the garage.

"Needless to say, all those traps have been removed.

"This lovely lad/lady was relocated to the shady wooded area behind my house and set free after a gentle water rinse."

Garter snakes are described as "generally harmless, small to medium-sized snakes belonging to the genus Thamnophis."
