An Indian robotics company has successfully built a prototype headgear that will facilitate frontline workers like police and health personals to tackle the deadly novel coronavirus outbreak in the country.

Indian Robotics Solutions (IRS) founded in 2019 by Sagar Gupta Naugriya and Prashant Pillai, is a part of Indian Robo Store group, a five-year-old Delhi based bootstrapped startup. IRS came up with a Thermal Corona Combat Headgear - TCCH, an advanced headgear that will enable police and healthcare workers to measure the body temperatures of people from a distance of seven to 10 metres.

The prototype was launched after the company successfully built India's first Penta utility and transformable drone, Thermal Corona Combat Drone (TCCD), in April.

The drone received a positive response from the government and health agencies of three states. It would be used to scan individuals in red zones areas in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). Due to the lack of financial and executional backing, TCCD has not been manufactured on a larger commercial scale.

Speaking about the headgear, IRS co-founder Prashant Pillai told Newslions Media Network, "Our whole team headed by Sagar [Gupta Naugriya] has been behind this project. It took us roughly six days to come up with the first prototype of the headgear."

Sagar said, "IRS decided to invest time and prepare the prototype after several governments showed interest."

"The intention was very straightforward. While various governments appreciated out drones, which provided them with an aerial solution, they wanted a land-to-land solution as well," he added

Prashant said, "The idea was to empower and equip the frontline warriors to go inside crowded places and try to understand the first preliminary examination, which is the elevated body temperature [EBT]"

According to IRS, an estimated 3,000-4,000 people can be scanned in roughly three and a half hours by the usage of the thermal corona combat headgear- TCCH

As it stands presently, the prototype comes with a thermal camera affixed to the headgear which thermally scans the people. A mobile phone fixed to a frame assists the wearer to pinpoint the individual whose temperature has to be taken. The readings are projected on his screen as well as can be showcased in any centralised control center using the Internet.

Visuals showed a cop using it to scan commuters on a busy road in Delhi. Another cop keeps an eye on the readings projected on the screen.

Prashant said the company will come up with an upgrade soon.

"In the second phase, we are using image processing to take the temperature of multiple people in a single screen. We are also working on increasing its accuracy by factoring in the environmental temperature” he said, adding, "It will be more efficient for the wearer as well and the people around."

In their appeal, the company said they would need executional assistance from the government as well as financial support from high net individuals and investors to increase the production of the headgear, as they plan to bolster India's bid to eradicate the novel coronavirus.

They also look forward to building a consortium where the Government, private players and technologists can come together under one umbrella to fight the novel coronavirus effectively.
