Amid COVID-19 - Kashmiri farmers not satisfied with the plum crop production

PLUM production is lower this year than last year

About ten varieties are cultivated in Kashmir and Centrosum plum is one of the main varieties.

Other varieties are identified as Silver, Chogandhara, Cheney, Safeda, Wagnu, Mishiri, Sharbat, Khajoor, and only a small scale desin plum is grown.

Kashmir is popular for its fruits and dry fruits. Apples, pears, cherries, grapes, pomegranates, mulberries, peaches, apricots, walnuts, almonds and mouth watering PLUMS that require moderate climate including light rain and strong sunlight.

Farmers are busy harvesting fruits, mostly grown in Budgam district.

PLUMS are available in the market for only two months (July and August) as their short shelf life.

On an average, each PLUM box is sold for Rs 150 to 300 depending on the quality, demand and season.
