A police team had been stationed at Rama Mandi chowk in Jalandhar city in northern India during a Covid 19 lockdown on July12.

The team had set up a makeshift post and placed a table and a few chairs. They were checking vehicles and penalising those, who had hit the streets without valid passes.

A monkey sat at a distance watching them for sometime and then decided it was time to take over some policing responsibility.

It sat on a chair before the table mimicking an officer who had just vacated the spot.

It opened the notepads and challan books, which were used to fine offenders, and started examining them. It also found a pencil and chewed on it.

The police filmed their new applicant and tried to chase it away.

In typical cop fashion, It lost its temper when a policeman tried to shoo it away with an empty water can. It also tried to attack a police woman, who tried to take the books away from its reach.

But realising that the police were determined to stop it from recruiting itself, the monkey stood at a distance for a while. It then got bored and moved on.

An officer on the spot said: “The monkey was rude. We were afraid it may grab our guns.”
