A bull was rescued after falling into a 50-foot-deep well in the village of Arewadi, central India, on July 16.
Footage shows the rescuers tying the trapped animal with ropes and hauling it up, with the help of a crane.
Residents of the village had previously tried to lift the bull out with no success, and the bull attacked people who climbed down to rescue it.
A team of rescuers led by Dr. Rakesh Chittora went to the village and started the six-hour recovery operation.
Dr. Rakesh Chittora, Senior Veterinary in Animal Rahat, said: “We took its body temperature, which was normal, but the bull was under stress, so we immediately administered an anti-stress injection. He was dehydrated as well, so saline was administered. Multivitamins and painkillers were also administered.
"Then bull was examined for any lameness or fractured bones, but fortunately after one hour of rest, the owner took his bull home."
A bull fell down in approx 50 feet deep well at Aherwadi village and requested Animal Rahat for help. Then after Dr Rakesh Chittora with his team reached the spot.
They observed the situation there; the well was very deep with no water and lodged with red soil & rocks inside. The bullock was in standing position, looking towards upside continuously for help but simultaneously bull was in fear and stress. There were some scratches on back which were seeing from top. On enquiry, they came to know that bull fell down in well a day ago and villagers have tried to take him out but could not get success and due to fear, bull was attacking on persons who climbed down in well for rescue. Villagers were discussing that bull was attacking on people that is why villagers so afraid with bull.
The owner of bullock managed crane for lifting up of bull from well. The son of bullock owner and one villager went down in well with help of crane. They managed to tie one rope to bull while they were in hanging position; other end of same rope was with people who were standing on top. They did not want to get down at bottom of village due to fear because yesterday bull tried to attack on them while rescue. After tying of rope, they got down in well and stood away from bull. Then again two rescuers went down inside well with help of crane.
Then son of bullock owner showed courage and he with the help of other rescuers hold the bull and injected sedative injection and then covered the bull’s eye with green cloth to make him calm down. Even after covering his eyes, bull was trying to threat rescuer due to fear.
After some time bullock sat down due to effect of sedation. then they placed the cotton thick strap under his body and hang with hook of crane. For safety, they tied bullock’s leg, bull could have struggling while pulling up by crane, so for safety, legs were tied. Then with help of crane bull was pulled out. 2-3 persons on the top were holding bull’s head with rope while crane was lifting bull.
After taking him out, immediately his legs were untied.
Dr Rakesh Chittora, Senior Veterinary in Animal Rahat said we took body temperature which was normal but bull was under stress, so immediately anti stress injection was administered. Then all together have brought bull in sternal recumbancy. He was dehydrated as he was in well since last day then saline was administered, Then suddenly the bull came in standing position while team was administering saline. Then multi vitamin & painkiller injection were administered. Then dressing of wound was done. Then bull was examined for any lameness or any fracture of bone, but fortunately no lameness and fracture of any bone was observed. Then after one hour of rest, bullock owner took bull to his home. It took 6 hours for this rescue operation.
