India's premier institute the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, has held its annual convocation ceremony digitally because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The institute, located in western India's Maharashtra state, awarded the degrees to the personalized avatars of each student on August 23. The degrees were handed over by the avatar of director professor Subhasis Chaudhari.

Visuals show the avatars receiving their certificate from the director. The medalists also received their medals from the personalized avatar of the chief guest.

IIT Bombay said it did not wish to deprive the students of their sense of pride and achievement at passing out from the premier institute. Keeping the safety of the students and attendees in mind, the institute came up with this creative solution.

The whole ceremony was put together by a team of 20 people over two months.
