The fire brigade rescued an elderly man from Tamil Nadu named Murthy, whose foot had become lodged in a drain's iron grill. Officials managed to free him safely by carefully shifting the grill inward.

The incident took place on Puthiya Street in Kannur district in southern India’s Kerala, on July 11.

Visuals show that an elderly man's foot got stuck in an iron grill on the road, causing him to feel discomfort for a long time. He remained seated by the roadside in that condition until fire brigade officials eventually arrived and rescued him.


Speaking to Newslions, Afsal, Senior Fire and Rescue Officer, Kannu Fire Station, Kerala, stated that an elderly man’s foot became unexpectedly trapped in the iron grill of a drain while he was walking along the road. He remained standing beside the road for quite some time, visibly uncomfortable. Local residents quickly gathered and made several efforts to free him, but none were successful. Realizing the situation required professional help, they contacted the fire brigade.

Responding promptly, the fire brigade team reached the location and used a hydraulic extender to carefully cut through the grill and release his foot. Thanks to their swift action, the elderly man was safely rescued. Remarkably, he was able to stand up on his own without assistance after the incident. As he showed no signs of serious injury, there was no need for hospitalization. He remained in good health following the ordeal and expressed relief at being freed without further harm.
