Flash floods hits Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, following torrential downpours on Thursday afternoon ( September 10).

The rain started at around 2pm lasting for several hours, causing drains to become blocked and water to fill the roads.

Among the worst-affected areas were Jalan Dang Wangi, Jalan Campbell, the Ampang highway (near Bank Simpanan Nasional) and the Wangsa Maju LRT station.

Residents were seen struggling to walk through the water-engulfed pavements while carrying umbrellas.

Commuters were forced to drive through the flood-filled streets with some areas reporting waist-high water.

The Federal Territories ministry, Annuar Musa said: "The ministry will take into account whether the flood mitigation system and SMART Tunnel, which cost billions to build, are functioning well."
