Private plane crashes during takeoff in Venezuela
This is the terrifying moment a private plane crashed during takeoff, killing both of the pilots onboard.
Footage shows the Piper PA-31T1 Cheyenne I accelerating along the runway, barely lifting off before tilting and flipping over in Venezuela.
It was seen slamming onto the ground with its left wing and erupting into a fireball as shocked onlookers screamed.
The Aviation Safety Network reported the aircraft departed from runway 20 at Paramillo Airport in San Cristobal, Tachira, before the accident occurred at approximately 9:52 am local time on October 22.
An investigation is ongoing, and the plane was reportedly involved in ‘government logistics activities'.
The country's Civil Aviation Accident Investigation Board (JIAAC) said: 'The corresponding protocols and the actions of the Aeronautical Firefighters of the aforementioned airport were immediately activated to attend to the accident.
'Unfortunately, the two crew members on board were killed. In this sense, the Civil Aviation Accident Investigation Board (JIAAC) was activated, in accordance with the requirements of the Venezuelan State, in order to find the causes of the accident.'
Local media reported that the pilot lost control after a tyre exploded.
Authorities confirmed: 'Both occupants perished and the aircraft was destroyed by fire.'
