Footage shows vehicles struggling to drive up a muddy mountain road after heavy rain in Vietnam.

Education officers and volunteers joined the caravan going to a town in the mountains in Dien Bien province for a school opening on September 25.

However, the group attending the inauguration of a new school in the remote village was delayed when the pickup trucks and jeeps were caught in deep mud on the way.

Heavy downpours and rainstorms before they reached the town worsened the road conditions and made travelling more difficult.

Volunteer Chao Man On said they had to vacate the cars to reduce the weight and push them across the dirt road.

He said: "We did not expect that it would be this hard to reach the school, but it was all worth it because the children will have a better school near their homes."

The education officials brought new supplies for the school and organised a small event where the teachers and parents were invited.

Before the new school was constructed, children from the village had to travel to the next town to attend school.
