A tourist's off-road jeep had to be pulled by locals after it was stuck in waist-deep mud on a mountain in the Philippines.

Footage shows the vehicle attached to a two rope connected to a resident's vehicle as it was dragged through sticky sludge in Laguna province on August 23.

Driver Benedict Asayo said he had been on the trailbefore but he did not anticipate that the soil would be so soft and muddy that day.

He said: 'I have been on that trail before but I thought that the area was already dry. I did not know that there was a mudslide a few days before I went off-roading.'

The tourist was unhurt but the truck had to be towed to a mechanic's garage for checking.

The incident came as the Philippines was battered by severe tropic storm Ma On, locally named Florita, which inundated many parts of the archipelago and left three dead.

Heavy rain caused landslides and flash floods which washed away homes.
