This is the shocking moment a 13ft-long king cobra tried to attack animal rescuers while trying to escape.

The venomous snake was found by a gardener beneath one of his mangosteen trees in Chanthaburi province, Thailand on September 28.

The black reptile tried to lunge at the startled gardener so he called the animal rescuers for assistance.

Animal handlers arrived at the orchard with a steel hook and a blue plastic container to capture the fierce snake.

However, the huge reptile was unexpectedly violent so they struggled to take control of the creature.

The vicious cobra snapped at the rescuers while they tried to lure it inside the plastic container and even chased after the recorder during the rescue mission.

After almost half an hour, the rescuers were able to pin down the reptile using a metal hook before placing it inside the container.

One of the rescuers, Sergeant Natthaphon, said: "The king cobra was quite ferocious and had a very strong body. It refused to be put into the container, which is unlike any other snake I have captured before."

The team took the snake into the local reptile centre to rehabilitate before they will release it to the wild later.
