A sinister cobra lurking near a resident's yard was captured by wildlife handlers in Thailand.

The venomous creature had slithered near the house in Nakhon Ratchasima province to hunt for rodents when it was spotted by the terrified homeowner, who called the snake catchers for assistance on October 7.

Footage shows the volunteers grabbing the five-metre cobra using snake tongs as it tried to hide in a narrow alley beside the house.

When they snared the cobra's head, they then dragged it to an open space, where they hauled it inside a fertiliser sack to be released into the wilderness.

The resident said the cobra had been aggressive, and flared its hood repeatedly when it saw her.

The wildlife team said it was lucky the snake had been discovered before biting anyone.
