Hundreds of supporters of the Thai monarchy marched today (October 20) as the anti-establishment protest continued to escalate.

Royalists wearing yellow shirts gathered outside a government office in Chonburi province, while pro-democracy groups converged in Bangkok.

Banglamung district sheriff Amnat Charoensri welcomed the group and received a letter demanding that ministers protect the members of the royal family and the institution of the monarchy in Thailand.

Footage shows the supporters wearing yellow shirts as they were holding pictures of the Thai King Rama X and the queen. They were also seen waving small Thai national flags. Many of the supporters were government officers such as mayors and village chiefs.

One woman who joined the protest said she has faith in the Thai monarchy. She said: "No one should hold prejudice against the royal family because they have given virtue to Thailand for a long time."

Police said that unlike the anti-government rallies, this assembly could not be considered as a protest because there were no leaders who gave speeches.
