Dog rescued after being tied to house and forgotten about during Typhoon Molave floods
This is the heartwarming moment a drowning dog was rescued after being tied up and forgotten about during floods in the Philippines.
Passing farmer, Joy Motilla, was crossing a bridge when he heard the crying pooch outside an abandoned house in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro on October 26 during Typhoon Molave, also known as Quinta.
The dog's owner was a villager who forgot to untie their guard dog when they rushed to evacuation centres as torrents of muddy water submerged the village.
With rain pouring at the time, the dog could not escape the overflowing waist-deep floodwater. Its collar was tied to the pole rendering it trapped.
Joy was warned by his friends that the guard dog could bite him if he went near, but he rushed over and continued to help the dog while people cheered him on.
The fearful dog barked even louder when the farmer approached him but it soon calmed down and was rescued.
Onlooker Joef Dela Cruz said Joy did not hesitate to help the animal and he is proud of him.
He said: "The dog owner is old and maybe he forgot to remove the leash because of the fast flood depths."
