Woman uses basin to rescue dog from floods in the Philippines

This is the heartwarming moment a woman used a basin to rescue a pet dog from floods in the Philippines.

Footage shows the resident trudging through thigh-deep floods in Macabebe town, Pampanga, on August 1, carrying the large basin to use as a makeshift boat for the pooch named Chamcham.

Typhoon Khanun had flooded the neighbourhood, leaving the canine stranded in its cage.

Pet owner Mariane Camaya said: 'Chamcham was crying because he was so scared of the flood. He cried even louder when we walked away to find a basin for him. He's okay now, and the water has also subsided.'

Pampanga province was placed under was placed under a state of calamity due to Typhoon Doksuri and Khanun, which battered the Philippines consecutively last week.

Some 232 villages were inundated during the storms, with around 6,057 people staying in evacuation centres as of August 2, the provincial disaster office reported.

State weather agency PAGASA said Khanun, known in the country as 'Falcon', has left the Philippine monitoring zone on August 1 but will continue to amplify the southwest monsoon. It was headed towards the East China Sea while decelerating, forecasters said.

Tropical Philippines sees an average of 20 storms per year. The Southeast Asian nation - ranked among the most vulnerable to climate change - grapples with devastating floods and landslides annually.
