An amateur cyclist was taken to hospital to have thousands of thorns removed after crashing into a bed of cacti in Argentina's Buenos Aires.

Passersby in the City Park area helped remove thousands of thorns from Diego Moreno's body after he fell into a patch of the prickly plants.

The cyclist had to go to hospital, where the rest of the spines were removed.

Moreno told local media: "We were going with three more cyclists, I was last in line, I didn't see a small crater in the asphalt and I hit the pothole.

"Thank god I was wearing glasses and a helmet and I didn't injure my face or head, because the way the spines got embedded in me, it could have blinded me."

Diego Moreno, an amateur cyclis, 39, was doing sports on his bicycle on Avenida "Los Cactus" in the City Park area, in the Argentine province of La Rioja, when, for reasons that are being established, he lost control of the rolling and ended up on top of a large number of cacti, a native plant of the region.

The images show the pain of the cyclist when getting up with thousands of thorns nailed all over the body.

The cyclist had to go to the hospital, where the spines were removed.

At that time he was assisted by people who were in the place, who helped him to remove little by little the multiple thorns that were embedded in his body. Then he was transferred to the Vera Barros hospital to carry out the corresponding cures. He is out of danger and has already been discharged.

Moreno explained how the events took place: "We were going with three more cyclists, I was last in line, I didn't see a small crater in the asphalt and I bit the pothole, I let go of my hands from the handlebars and began to cordon off, I wanted to accommodate the bike and I could not, when I wanted to grab the handlebar again I pushed it even more and I went squarely against the stalks", he told the local Nueva Rioja site.

"Thank God I got it cheap because I was wearing glasses and a helmet and I didn't punch my face or head, because the way the spines got embedded in me could have made me blind", he continued.
