A motorcyclist had to stop in the middle of the road as they battled powerful winds from Hurricane Iota in El Salvador on November 17.

The delivery man was caught up in the storm, which hit the capital city of San Salvador.

The footage also shows a pedestrian holding on to a tree.

El Salvador is bordered on the northeast by Honduras, one of the countries that has been severely affected by Hurricane Iota.

Hurricane made landfall in Nicaragua on Monday evening before causing more damage as it moved over to El Savador, Panama, Nicaragua and Belize.

Many Nicaraguan properties have lost access to electricity and phone services. The storm, which brought strong winds and heavy rain leading to floods, has reportedly killed 19 people across the region as of November 18.

Iota's wind speed has since dropped to 30 mph and is moving west at 12 mph, weakening to tropical depression status, according to the National Hurricane Center. Some parts of the region are expected to receive more than 12 inches of rain today.

Hurricane Eta had earlier caused severe destruction, killing more than 182 people and left 116 missing across Central America.
