Residents waded through the flood-filled streets today in La Lima, Honduras, after Hurricane Iota barrelled through the region killing more than 30 people across Central America.

About 100,000 people were left isolated in Honduras. Several cities have reportedly lost access to electricity and drinking water.

The storm's wind strength has weakened to 170 km/h and will continue to alleviate as it moves inland.

Iota is currently the strongest Atlantic hurricane of the year and is the second that had ever strengthen to category 5 since 1932.
